GRN:BOX submissions and finalists will be publicly displayed on August 3rd First Friday, at Historic Firehouse #2, Commercial St. at Boonville Ave. on Historic C-Street. Bring your dollars to vote for your favorite submission and enjoy a variety of music provided by Collette Parker Restoration. Every dollar counts as one vote for your favorite entry. YAF will match every dollar raised to help fund building a prototype of the “the people’s choice”. Free shuttles are available to historic Commercial Street from downtown every First Friday. For shuttle info: itsalldowntown.com.
Three finalists chosen by the jury and one finalist by the public will receive a stipend and one-month period to build a full scale and functioning prototype of the winning recycling receptacle. The built prototypes will be placed downtown the month of October and real life tested for a one-month trial period. The jury will then be asked to revisit the used prototypes and declare a winner based on aesthetics, durability, accessibility, construction, maintenance, etc. The winning entry will be available for the City of Springfield to mass-produce and implement into the city as they choose.
This event would not have been possible without our sponsors who felt a design competition aimed at bettering our collective environment would be invaluable for Springfield, Thank you:
Dynamic Earth, American Institute of Architects (AIA), USGBC Mid Missouri, American Detection, Commercial Club, Stufflebam Group, and Webster University!
